Apply to the Energy Council today!

We need to accelerate and future-proof the work of developing energy communities in all municipalities in Sweden and gather the local forces of the municipalities for the citizens in energy communities.

According to the EU's Solar Energy Strategy, it is recommended that every municipality with more than 10,000 inhabitants establishes at least one renewable energy community by 2025. Our goal is that 50% of Sweden’s municipalities will have at least one energy community initiative within three years.

Therefore, we are introducing an Energy Council consisting of experts who will elevate, inspire, and engage more municipalities to be an active part of energy communities. Municipalities not only can, but must, be the driving force for change and promote renewable production, shared consumption, and citizens' participation in the new energy paradigm

Submit your idea to the Energy Council

The Energy Council is a group of six individuals*, leaders in technology, energy sharing, and entrepreneurship in citizen-driven organizations. The Energy Council functions as an 'incubator.'

Target audience: Municipalities and their employees within sustainability and energy technology, in land development, and those working with business development.

Criteria for pitching to the Council

Hur går det till?

  • The municipal participant submits an application with a brief concept description to the Council. SVEG helps refine the application for the applicant.

  • Participants pitch their initiative to the Council and receive expert advice from the group. We start in September 2025. The Council will select the best initiative.

  • All cases will be published and communicated externally. The best cases will be promoted via press and digital posts. A short 3-minute demonstration video will be published.

  • The best initiatives will be presented in networks with investors and industry leaders.

Citizens are co-creators

We place great emphasis on citizens being co-creators from the start. Alongside technological shifts, the potential of smart energy use and behavioral changes can only become a reality through people’s involvement. Citizens in an energy community can act in a variety of roles as consumers, parents, employees, business owners, homeowners, and leaders.

The Council consists of leaders in technology, energy sharing, and entrepreneurship in citizen-driven organizations. Contact us to learn more about them!

All contributions will move forward with a chance to win the Energy Community of the Year Sweden 2025.
